Free market argument correct. Homeopathic ? I’ve been in emergency medicine for a decade and never found it to matter. For most people Homeopathic= Hippy weirdo= lacking merit = going to disregard any argument you make= correct free market argument is ignored. Stick with the free market argument, it’s more sound.
hey champ, you made a similar flub when you said there would be a 300 000 troop surge in afghanistan
…or at very least there will be no way of knowing, and buying medicine for a serious health condition will basically be like buying a lotto ticket. How awful is that?
Yes, and this is why I’m against bluefootedpig’s notion of “let the free market work itself out.” It won’t with zero quality control. We will have actual medicine, which costs significantly more to research and produced, absolutely crushed by ripoffs and scam artists just like in the old days.
My position is not that regulating the hell out of things is the solution (this will just end up in the large companies regulating competition to death), my position is just that bluefootedpig is a dolt.
@bluefootedpig
If you want to talk about medicine, at least take enough college classes to qualify as an EMT. Otherwise, kindly STFU.
@Muchodelcrazy
The placebo effect is pretty strong, especially if your placebo actively seeks out groups that believe, or really strongly want to believe, in shit. That is exactly what the homeopathic medicine market does. You will notice that it tends to be REALLY big in fundamentalist and christian conspiracy circles.
Multi vitamin =/= homeopathic medicine at all. Clearly, you don’t know about homeopathic medicine.
I think you don’t realize that there are plenty of home-grown cures out there in the free market for simple things, and usually people don’t get prescriptions for simple things. But there are so many disorders and diseases that NEED a higher level of scrutiny. Viruses are nothing like high blood pressure and if you just stab in the dark at them, you’re going to kill alot of people.
I agree. People have this illusion that they live in a democracy. Politicians start campaigning for the next election almost the day after the new president is inagurated. They tell the masses of idiots about govt waste and corruption and special interest groups, and when they have their turn at power, the incumbant rants off the same shit.
Democracy is an illusion. The only people it seems that win or lose are the lobby groups.
I am very educated on the topic actually, spend a great deal of time and effort researching it. While some things do need medicine such as small pox, i would say though that for high blood pressure, rat poison vs healthy diet, the healthy diet is better. Also, if homeopathic medicine is so bad, why does every doctor say to take a multi vitamin? giving your body what it needs to fight off disease, how absurd! Medicine has its place, but natural methods should be explored first.
you actually don’t really need quality control, not if it is the responsibility of someone to make sure the quality is there, say the doctor maybe. But right now to prove a drug is safe, costs around 3 million dollars, and if it is a plant, you can’t patient it, so why spend 3 million dollars to prove a plant can do what a drug can do. I understand perhaps a minor amount of control, but don’t wonder why we have big pharma when it costs so much to even get a drug to market.
You are either uneducated on the topic or a moron if you believe for a second that homeopathic medicine works: it is water and sugar and has failed every scrutinized test of any kind being monitored by a 3rd party. Of course they’re going to advertise it works- so do the “miracle cure” salesmen! It is astrology in the form of medicine.
Modern medicine is nothing short of a miracle, on the other hand. Or are you going to make smallpox nonexistent with your herbs? Good luck, they’ve tried.
@Rata4You
It’s a story about multibillion dollar industries knowing how many politicians that have in their pocket at any given time.
@bluefootedpig
You have to have quality control. Quality control is a form of regulation. You DON’T have to have a 1000% markup from manufacturer to consumer.
Perspective is needed here. The stocks of the big 3 insurers has been going up since Feb 2009. Steadly. They didnt just escalate upwards because of what Obama said or didnt say. Anyone who has seen the 1y data would have anticipated a continued climb. It continues its climb. There was no massive surge. It was just another average day for these two stocks. Its a story about nothing.
It is funny that the insurance companies is all about profit… yet they have no understanding of the different between symbiotic & parasitic relationship…
Same with wall street bankers… they learn nothing from the Great Depression.
There is no profit in a destabilized nation.
Yeah i have heard of those, I have also seen the massively addicting and horrible side effects of anti depressants, yet those are still passed and approved. And as far as homeopathic, you might want to research that a bit more, with the ability to remove 99% of high blood pressure, and 46% removal of type 2 diabetes through homeopathic medicine, I think that should say something. Not saying all medicine works, but even modern medicine is bad for you.
that markup, is due to regulation. The control of market, is due to regulation. If you have regulation, aka rules or laws, then you can control the system by controlling the laws. If anyone could copy a pill and introduce it, then competition would enter and you would see the prices lower. Look at generics, costing a fraction and are actually proven to be better quality. That is capitalism. It is when regulations keep competition out they can charge that much markup.

Thank you Whore Lieberman
LOL You should read up on your military doctrine, if the existence of the nation is ever threatened the default plan is to retaliate with a massive nuclear strike. Not saying it’s a plan that helps out the world or any shit like that just saying it’s the plan. And the chance of many countries secretly having nukes and the means to deliver them is unlikely, though I would guess quite a few former soviet states have the capability, especially the ones who are now a part of the CIS.
“new medicine costs nothing, as you are required by REGULATIONS to research it and test it”
Haha, have you ever heard of all the “miracle cures” that turned out to just be morphine or some other addictive substance? Come on, get serious! Have you seen “Pete’s Dragon” or “Music Man?” CHILDREN aren’t that naive! We already have enough bull like homeopathic medicine floating around doing nothing but robbing dimwitted people. With COST-EFFECTIVE things a patent works. Bio-drugs are not.
Obama was promoting the idea of public option when he was running for presidency, but he now said it wasnt a big deal. Obama is a puppet, his campaign was funded by Health Insurance companies, do you think he would go against his masters that put him there.
This is great news, this indicates that Healthcare reform will FAIL and Sarah Palin becomes America’s NEXT and GREATEST POTUS! Under Palinomics, these stocks will continue to rise even higher than ever before and it will never crash and collapse! Palin will ensure that there is NO government healthcare whatsoever! She will even privatize Veteran’s Healthcare along with Medicare and Medicaid as a way to drastically cut spending and spend conservatively!
Obama and the rest of the democrats sold out. They should have went for “all or nothing” Instead they compromised, compromised and compromised until their was nothing left. Howard Dean is right. This bill will only benefit the insurance companys and make Americans foot the bill. No wonder the insurance companys and Republicans are having a victory party. Obama talks like he can get things done but the facts speak tor themselves. This bill is nothing but a joke.
